- A model for developing youth ministry that is developmentally appropriate strengthens family, involves young people in parish life, and collaborates with the community
Practices in Youth Ministry
Teaches:
- Developing comprehensive youth ministry through the collaborative sharing of resources in the community
- Developing foundational understandings to assist leaders in setting and implementing a vision for dynamic ministry with youth
- Developing skills for advocacy, planning and organizing your youth ministry efforts
- Developing skills for collaborative leadership among ministries and ministry teams

Foundations for Ministry Leadership
Addresses:
- Current leadership concepts, as well as Christian approaches to leadership
- Leadership theory and an assessment of styles for effective leadership
- Theological and pastoral foundations for understanding leadership and empowerment
- Processes and tools for inviting, preparing and nurturing adult and youth leaders in ministry
Skills for Christian Leadership
Focuses on:
- Addressing the theories and skills that ministers need to work with and empower people to become leaders
- Developing a practical, working knowledge of leadership process and skills, and the experiential ability to use the skills
- Stressing the application of leadership skills to various ministry settings, problems, and issues
CYCLE TWO
Pastoral Care
Goals for this course :
- To explore the principles and methods of caring for young people and their families
- To promote healthy adolescent development form a pastoral care perspective
- To develop preventative interventions for families with adolescents
- To understand the role that cultural identity plays in the development of adolescents
Justice and Service
Topics include :
- Exploring the foundations for fostering a justice and service consciousness and a spirituality in youth drawn from Scripture, Catholic Social Teaching, adolescent development and contemporary catechetical principles
- Developing skills for creating integrated, action-learning models for the justice and service component of a comprehensive youth ministry
Prayer and Worship
Participants will develop the foundational understanding and practical skills necessary for:
- Designing youth retreat experiences
- Preparing liturgy and worship, and prayer experiences with and for youth
- Fostering the prayer life of young people
- Developing a realistic and integrated approach to worship within a comprehensive youth ministry
Evangelization and Catechesis
This course will present the unique contribution of evangelization and catechesis to adolescent faith formation by exploring:
- How to nurture growth in faith and a Catholic identity in younger and older adolescents today in an integrated approach to faith formation
- The nature, aims, and scope of Catholic youth evangelization and catechesis
- The skills, strategies, and methods for effective evangelization and catechesis with adolescents
