Where do we park our car or bus?
There will be security volunteers to direct you to the parking areas. On Saturday, you will be parked near the Guild Center and Millennium Spire. On Sunday, you will park at the Shrine Amphitheatre.
How do we check in?
Step 1 – Send your adult group leader to the registration area to check your group in. Registration is located at the back of the amphitheatre or in the church gathering space. To prevent congestion while registering, please just send one group leader. The rest of your group can head towards the name tag table.
Step 2 – At the registration table, the group leader should give your group name. If you’re pre-registered, we’ll check you in, make changes if needed and you’ll be on to Step 3. If you need to register on-site, find the “on-site registration” line and we’ll do it right there. The on-site registration cost is $17 per person.
Step 3– Everyone in your group needs to make a name tag at the name tag area. Tables are set up near registration for this purpose. Be sure to include your parish. Name tags are your meal tickets and are to be worn all day.
Step 4 – Be seated. Our Teen Leadership Team would be happy to show you where to sit.
Step 5 – Have fun!
How do I find a STAFF member?
The Shrine Youth Ministry Team will be wearing the bright green Teen Leadership Team shirts.
Do we have to wear NAME TAGS?
For security reasons, name tags need to be worn by all participants all day. Please make sure that every person in your group wears a name tag and remember to include your parish and group leader contact information on your name tag. Replacement name tags can be made at the Information tent. Please turn all nametags in at the end of the day. We reuse them.
What do we do with permission forms?
Each group leader is responsible for gathering and retaining individual forms.
I am a chaperone. What do I need to do?
Click here for some expectations for chaperones and group leaders.
I am a group leader. What do I need to do?
As a group leader, you should a) register and pay for your group; b) assign each youth to a chaperone; c) be responsible for making sure that adults who chaperone have been cleared with your diocesan child protection policy; d) gather and retain individual forms. You should keep your permission forms with you during this event; e) supervise your youth and chaperones. You should also read the chaperone expectations.
What is the cost for Youth Day Celebration?
The cost for youth day is $17 per person. This applies to both youth and adults.
Do adult chaperones have to pay?
Both youth and adults pay to register ($17). This is to help us pay a just wage to our speakers, performers and workers as well as to pay for the meal.
How do I register?
You may download a new form coming soon and mail it in with your payment or you may call our administrative assistant, Carol Mueller at 618-394-6294 or 314-241-3400 and register with a credit card. You may also register either your entire group or any additional people onsite the day of the event.
Do I have to pre-register?
We prefer that you do. It helps us to make an accurate meal count and avoid wasting food. However, you may register the day of the event.
Can I add registrations to my group when I register?
Yes, you may add additional participants at the registration table.
Do I have to register with a group?
All youth must be accompanied by an adult chaperone for the entire day. This means that if you are a parent who wishes to bring a few students, you may. However, you must stay with them the entire day and you must be cleared through your diocesan child protection program. Youth may not be dropped off unattended.
Will there be merchandise for sale?
The Shrine Gift shop will be selling youth friendly tees and trinkets. Oddwalk and Mike Patin will have items available for purchase. There will also be a concession stand offering snacks and lunch items.
Are meals provided?
Dinner is included with the cost of registration. For lunch you may bring a sack lunch to enjoy before the event or during the first break. There will be a concession stand with hotdogs, snacks, soda and bottled water for sale.
What refreshments are available?
The concession stand will be open before the event and during scheduled break times. There will be hotdogs, chips, pretzels, candy, soda and bottled water for sale. In addition, there are water fountains in the church and amphitheatre. Please help us keep the grounds clean by properly disposing of trash and recycling. No food or drink is allowed in the church beyond the gathering space.
What about a SERVICE PROJECT?
As missionaries, one of our goals is to encourage young people to help others. During our Youth Day Celebration our collection at Mass will go to support young people served by Oblate Missions around the world.
What if it rains?
If we experience a passing shower during an outside activity, we will stick it out and “rain delay” until the storm has passed. If rain is anticipated to last all day, we will switch to a rain schedule. In the event of a rain forecast, please call 618-394-6286 after 7:00 p.m.the day before you plan to arrive to hear rain instructions.
What is the schedule for the day?
Group leaders and chaperones are given a pocket sized schedule when they arrive. You can click here for a link to the
schedule, however each day’s schedule is different, so be sure to check for the day you are attending. Here is our anticipated flow of the day…
1. Icebreakers and Music 7. Band
2. Welcome 8. Break
3. Prayer 9. Keynote II
4. Introduction to Theme 10. Mass
5. Keynote I 11. Dinner
6.Break 12. Community Time / Dance
Will there be a Sunday mass?
Yes, there will be a mass and it will fulfill your Sunday obligation. For time see the schedule.
Will there be a dance?
Yes, we will end the day with some time to have fun and build community. This will include a dance. Attendance is optional. Our day officially ends with Mass.
What if our group gets separated at the end of the night?
The large Healing and Hope tent at the northeast corner of the amphitheatre is designated as Lost and Found. Please inform your group about this meeting place.
Can we go the Shrine Visitor’s Center?
For safety reasons, all Youth Day participants (youth and adults) must remain at the Youth Day venue for the entire event. Because adults are expected to chaperone the behavior of their youth, adults must remain with the youth for the entire day. Unaccompanied youth will be sent back to find an adult. Youth are expected to behave in an appropriate and safe manner.
What if I have a MEDICAL emergency?
First Aid personnel are on-site throughout the day at the First Aid Tent. They are there to offer minor comforts such as band aids and a place to rest. We will have an ambulance on-site all day for more serious medical issues. Teens coming to the First Aid tent MUST be accompanied by one of their adults.
Where are the restrooms?
Restrooms are located near the top of the hill on either side of the amphitheatre, in the church building and the Guild Center across from the church. Several breaks are planned for the day. We encourage you to use the restrooms during these breaks and not during Mass or a keynote session. If a youth must use the restroom during a session, they must be accompanied by an adult.
What if I have a suggestion?
Got a comment or suggestion? We’d love to hear from you. Please take a moment to fill out an evaluation with the Teen Leadership Team during the dance.
